This Privacy Policy explains how the Only Planes mobile application and website (together, the “Service”) collect, use, and protect your information. Only Planes is designed around a simple principle: we collect only what the app needs to work, and nothing more.

By using the Service you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Who We Are

Only Planes is operated by Eight Head Software (“Only Planes,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), which acts as the data controller for the information described in this policy. You can reach us at any time at [email protected].

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information, each tied to a specific app function:

Location

When you open the camera to capture an aircraft, the app uses your device’s location to perform a spatially referenced ADS-B lookup. Your position lets us match live aircraft transponder data to what your camera is pointed at, overlay nearby aircraft relative to where you are standing, and confirm that a target is genuinely overhead. Without location, the app cannot verify a catch.

Location is used to verify aircraft and is stored alongside the photo records it produces (see below). We do not use your location for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with data brokers. You can grant precise or approximate location through your device settings; Only Planes works best with precise location, since aircraft matching depends on your exact position.

Photos You Capture

Photos you take in the app are stored to build your Hangar, along with the time and place they were taken and the aircraft data matched to them. These photos and the collection they form are yours. Only Planes does not access your broader camera roll or photo library beyond the images you deliberately capture in the app.

Account & Profile Information

If you create an account, we store the information needed to maintain it — such as your username, an identifier, and your collection progress — so your Hangar follows you across sessions and devices.

Diagnostics & Usage Data

To keep the app stable, we collect a limited amount of technical information such as crash logs, error reports, device model, operating system version, and basic in-app usage events. This helps us fix bugs and understand which features are used. We collect only what is necessary for debugging and product improvement, and we minimize retention of this data.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

• Provide core functionality — spatially referenced ADS-B lookups, aircraft verification, and your Hangar.
• Maintain your account and sync your collection.
• Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve the reliability and quality of the Service.
• Protect the Service against abuse, fraud, and security threats.
• Comply with legal obligations when required.

Advertising & Tracking

Only Planes does not use your location or your photos for advertising. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites for advertising purposes as defined by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your permission first.

Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate the app. These may include:

• Crash and bug reporting — to receive diagnostic reports when something goes wrong.
• Usage analytics — to understand basic, aggregate feature usage and improve the app.
• ADS-B and mapping data providers — to supply the live aircraft data your captures are verified against.
• Hosting and infrastructure — to store your account and Hangar securely.

These providers process data only on our behalf and under agreements that limit their use of it to providing services to us. We do not sell your personal information.

Data Retention

We keep your account and Hangar data for as long as your account is active. Diagnostic and crash data is retained only as long as needed to investigate issues and is then deleted or aggregated. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize the personal information associated with it, except where we are required to retain it for legal or security reasons.

Your Rights & Choices

• Location control — you can grant, limit, or revoke location access at any time in your device settings. Revoking it will disable aircraft capture.
• Access & deletion — you can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it by contacting us at the email below, and you can delete your account from within the app.
• Correction — you can ask us to correct inaccurate account information.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. We honor these rights regardless of your location.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to limit what we collect in the first place.

Children’s Privacy

Only Planes is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

International Users

The Service may be operated from, and your information may be processed in, countries other than your own. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those countries, which may have different data-protection rules than where you live.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
